Details:
A low-to-the-ground class that weaves together Yin and Restorative yoga poses. Yin yoga consists of held poses generally from 2-7 minutes and focuses on an intentional load of the connective tissue to build length and strength of that tissue, like tendons and ligaments. Yin yoga was also created out of Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts and promotes energetic harmony by targeting the meridian pathways throughout the body. Restorative yoga is even more gentle in nature and uses props like blankets, bolsters, blocks and straps to support the body in various positions for a deeply restful and therapeutic experience. These poses may be held anywhere from 5+ minutes. The main intention of Restorative yoga is to learn how to consciously rest. . . to support the physical body to alleviate and neutralize areas of tightness while inhibiting the sensation of stretch. So a Restorative Yin practice is a dance between stretch/sensation and then support/rest. It creates a gentle rhythm alternation between sympathetic and parasympathetic states of the nervous system. . . a dance between alertness and restfulness that facilitates balance, a sense of physical and mental health. This class might also include brief periods of gentle movement, breathwork or Qi Gong to prepare the body for stillness and relaxation. No yoga experience is necessary for this class! Please bring your own mat and everything else will be provided.
