One of country musics most multi-talented artists is a crystal-clear-voiced singer, intuitive songwriter, talented guitarist, inventive record producer, and engaging live performer. The tapestry she weaves is that of a sensitive woman taking charge of her life. In the early 1990s, she was at the forefront of Nashvilles new breed of women artists who controlled their careers and music. Before arriving in Nashville, Suzy spent several years on the road operating like a contemporary version of the old-time traveling troubadours. As a yodeling singer from small-town Illinois, she booked her own shows as she drove in a camper from gig to gig, performing show tunes, swing, jazz, folk, and country numbers. A determined lady, she recorded her own cassette in Nashville in 1985 and, within six months, was signed as the headlining female performer at Dollywood for the summer season. A contract with Capitol Records followed, and she released her first album, SOMEWHERE BETWEEN in 1988. Suzy Bogguss is embracing a new chapter in her career with the release of a brand new album, Prayin For Sunshine. Her 17th studio album, Prayin for Sunshine, was released on November 3, 2023. It marks the first time she is credited as a writer of all songs on one of her albums. Music Row said the album captures the unvarnished essence of southern storytelling and the authentic roots of Americana music. In a review for the lead single, It All Falls Down to the River, American Songwriter called the song a lyrical gut-punch, shining a light on hard truths about life in the United States. From the site of Martin Luther King Jr.s assassination to the levees of New Orleans that broke during Hurricane Katrina, Bogguss, and The McCrary Sisters paint a powerful picture of our nations complex past and present. In an album review, No Depression said the album showcases Bogguss lyrical and musical ingenuity, her nod-and-a-wink humor, and her deep love for her community of friends and fans. And the album reminds us of how radiant and transportive Bogguss vocals are.
