Featured in the gallery through April is James Ellis Fine Art. "Embark on a visual voyage through the captivating landscapes of the North Shore, as seen through the eyes of James Ellis. Witness the vibrant explosion of color in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in the fall, where leaves paint the forest floor in a kaleidoscope of reds, yellows and oranges. Experience the raw power of nature in late winter, as a raging storm batters the shoreline at Tettegouche State Park. And finally, imagine you're hiking through a vast boreal forest, sunlight filtering through the dense canopy of trees. The air is crisp and clean, the only sounds are the rustling of leaves and the occasional call of a bird. These paintings offer a glimpse into the ever-changing beauty of the North Shore, inviting you to explore its diverse moods and immerse yourself in its captivating essence." ARTIST STATEMENT "I follow the painting style rooted in 18th and 19th century realism or naturalism. As an artist, I explore an historical and natural journey through time along the North Shore of Minnesota from Duluth to the Canadian border. Each landscape illustrates my interpretation in oil of the Arrowhead of Minnesota’s physical features, past and present. Featured works tell the stories of Lake Superior and its impact on the shoreline and man’s desire for progress versus the elements. Select works tell stories passed down through oral tradition depicting the significance of natural elements to the Ojibwe People. Although my work encompasses more than the North Shore, my primary focus and philosophy has been to preserve the natural composition that the North Shore of Lake Superior provides and document places that in time will be lost or forgotten. It is my sincere hope that my art may occupy a space in your home for friends, family and you to linger and remember very special places."
