Join us for an enriching outdoor experience at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center! Our two-day Outdoor Skills Academy offers hands-on clinics in both fly fishing and whitetail deer hunting, perfect for beginners to intermediate enthusiasts.
On Day One, the Fly Fishing Clinic will provide you with essential casting techniques, fly selection strategies based on target species, and expert-led demonstrations in a fun, interactive classroom setting. The second day will include a morning fishing trip off-site, giving you practical experience on the water. Cost for this clinic is $35.
Meanwhile, the Learn to Hunt Whitetails class will immerse you in the art of trail hunting, emphasizing the transition from bait hunting to effective tracking of whitetail deer. Participants will learn to identify prime hunting spots, manage chronic wasting disease risks, navigate regulations, use scents, and read deer sign to enhance their hunting success. This class also addresses wildlife habitat management and essential gear needed for hunting. The cost for this class is $30.

Cancellations made up to 14 days in advance are eligible for a full refund. A Recreation Passport is required for entry into Mitchell State Park.
