Join Birds, Bees, Butterflies - Bemidji in celebrating our 9th annual Monarch Butterfly Festival! Most of our events occur on Saturday, October 4th from 1:00-4:00pm at Bemidji's new Veteran's Home. Our first event, however, happens on Wednesday, October 1st at 6:00pm at the Watermark Art Center (505 Bemidji Ave. N). Come listen to the annual Barta Butterfly Report! This is Allison Barta's 15th season of documenting butterflies in the area and, Wow!, did she have an amazing season! On Saturday, October 4th, come to the Festival starting at 1:00pm at the new Bemidji Veteran's Home (920 Anne St NW)! Learn about the ‘Birds for Veterans’ project at the facility. Hear from Thomas Dirth on how time spent in nature can benefit your health. John Weber will provide a butterfly report, and Headwaters Art and Music will feature special nature-themed music. Learn about four things you can do to help pollinators in your yard from Ann Gorman. Finally, stay for the highlight of the event - a children’s butterfly parade! Join a tour of the new Veterans Home and collect information from local organizations. Children (and adults!) should arrive near the start of the Festival (1:00pm) to allow time to create butterfly wings in prep for the children’s parade (~3:15pm). Celebrate the incredible 3,000 mile, fall migration journey made every year by Minnesota’s state butterfly!
